9/13/2016 2 Comments Rendez Vous with the GirlsI never thought until now that time spent with my much adored women friends as scientifically contributing to my good health. An article floating around the web was sent to me by some girlfriends where the head of psychiatry at Stanford University provided the following insight during one of his lectures on the subject of the mind-body connection, “One of the best things that a man can do for his health is to be married to a woman whereas, for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health is to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends.” We women connect with each other in such a way that we provide support systems that help us deal with the stresses and difficult life experiences we all encounter. Physically this quality “girlfriend time” helps us to create more serotonin — a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can help create a general feeling of well-being. Women are great at sharing feelings, whereas men often form relationships around activities like sports, hobbies and business interests. Men rarely sit down with a buddy and simply talk about their feelings or on the condition of their personal lives. Women, on the other hand, share their souls with their best friends, sisters, moms and research now shows it’s actually good for their health. The professor at Stanford commented that spending time with a trusted friend is just as vital to our general health as jogging or working out at the gym. He went on to say that we have a tendency to think that when we are “exercising” we are doing something good for our bodies. However, when we are hanging-out with good friends we believe we are wasting our time and should be more productively engaged — not true. I believe regular meet ups with my women friends brings to me similar benefits as meditation. I am calmer and focus better. Helps me bring creativity in my life and work. I am able to bring more joy and cheer to myself and my family. So, the next time you meet with your girlfriend pat yourself on the back for doing something good for your health...all naturally ! Do you have soulmates ? What does meeting with girlfriends mean to you ? Continue the blog and lets inspire and motivate each other....
